Education of Hispanics
Academy Award winning actress Renée Zellweger is known for saying, “Academics were important to my parents, as immigrants. Education is where it all begins.” This oft quoted statement provides an historically accurate depiction of the importance of education in the settlement and success of individuals who have emigrated to the U.S. from countries throughout the world. Zellweger’s assertion applies to Hispanic immigrants whose income, home ownership, and type of employment have been greatly influenced by their access to education.
